I have no clue as to where this heavy unweildy part sits???? | | | 10-05-2006, 08:24 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: New Jersey Posts: 38 | Help! i checked the bentley manual but i could not understand anything... do i need to go under the car? | | | 10-05-2006, 08:31 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Mine did this when i first got it....all i did was clean the engine a few times and tried starting it more than once when i drove it. (start, run, turn off, and re-start) After a week of doing that, havent had a problem since. Probably not the best advice, but thats my experience with the starter. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-05-2006, 08:53 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: New Jersey Posts: 38 | do you know how to replace the starter solenoid. i have the new part but i dont where to begin | | | 10-05-2006, 09:31 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: New Jersey Posts: 38 | Need Help i was told that my solenoid is shot and so i obtained a new one. can someone please help me with steps to replacing this. | | | 10-05-2006, 09:49 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | You have to remove the starter, solenoid is attached to it. Its pretty obvious once you have it on a workbench, 2 screws and a wire thats held on with a nut. It is possible for the bendix to be stuck as well and its on the end of the starter. If the solenoid does not fix it I'd take the starter to a reman shop and have it rebuilt. In my area thats about a 40 dollar option... If you don't have them put a new solenoid on... Only when I try to start the car I get a "Wheeze" noise as if the fan under the hood just turns on. After a few more dedicated tries the engine starts to kick up but doesn't completely turn. It's only after about 10-15 minutes that the car finally starts. The longer it sits the longer it takes to kick up. Could this be the starter selenoid as well???? Many Thanks. | | | 10-30-2006, 01:35 AM | #11 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | I had a similar problem and i new right away my starting was letting go. I had it replaced 2 weeks ago by my local mechanic and haven't had any problems. Starts up so strong right now it's great. You need to remove the intake manifold to get at the starter,it's kind of a bad job to do yourself. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 10-30-2006, 02:53 AM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2006 Posts: 3 | Great, So all I need to do then would be to replace the whole starter? I don't plan on doing it myself so I'll just bring it into the shop. Also, how much did it cost you for labor and parts? I appreciate your help Keith. Again, many Thanks. | | | 10-30-2006, 05:09 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: MD/VA/DC Posts: 834 | i have the same problem to with my car it makes that wheeze sound too. | | | 10-30-2006, 06:44 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Could be a bad solenoid. How deep is it in the engine? The way I usually test it is to either arc the connections using a screwdriver or beat on it a little with a hammer. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 10-30-2006, 11:29 AM | #15 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2006 Posts: 3 | Doesn't sound too deep inside, as I mentioned before it just sounds like a fan turning on. Another thing, I have a light on my dash that turns on every now and then and I don't know what it represents. It's a circle with a exclamation point inside.
