Group, I have a situation where my throttle is sticking but only under slight pedal applications and hard pedal applications...I hope that that makes sense? Yes, I lubricated the assembly with the coil springs by the throttle plate. That didn't work. I do not believe it is the cables themselves, I believe it is within the throttle housing itself...But I could be wrong. I can't be the only one who has experienced this? Please advise, Chris P.S. This is ocurring on my 1997 5 speed __________________ 2011 BMW X5d with EVERYTHING on it 2007 Cooper S (6 speed manual) 2001 Eurovan 1997 318ti | | | 10-26-2006, 12:42 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | I had this problem. It was my throttle cable. The gromet in the firewall had deteriorated over time and the cable binded up in it...i was in traffic and pulled over, gave the gas pedal a slight tug, and pushed to see why it binded up and the cable snapped. So check the gromet in the firewall and see if its messed up. a new cable assembly is only like 25$ __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-26-2006, 02:39 PM | #3 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Did this start after your DASC was installed? If it did i'd do what Dusten said take it back to the shop that worked on it and tell them to fix it. Tell them this started after you installed my s/c and to double check everything that you touched. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 10-26-2006, 05:59 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: The Netherlands Posts: 28 | I had problems with the throttlebody being dirty. The 2 valves open and close with very little space between them and the housing. So the dirt prevents the valves from opening freely. What happens is that the pedal moves about an inch before getting stuck. I really had to press hard to get it opened. So I got it out of the car and cleaned it with brakecleaner. After that no problems anymore and even a better idle. | | | 10-27-2006, 02:08 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Calabasas Posts: 187 | Joy....Throttle valve's... But anyway, its very common for EFI engines to develop deposits at the throttle plate, usually a small brush and CARB cleaner will take it right out. I remove the black air tube between the flow meter and the throttle body, block the plates open and scrub. takes about 15 minutes total. Can anyone shed some light on why now (after the DASC) I'm having stalling problems at idle? When coming to a stop as I take the car out of gear and let the clutch, the RPM's will fall to about 200 rpm (or so) and briefly/barely struggle before the car dies. If I can get the car to idle, it will usually keep itself there, but I have to feather the throttle to get it to idle. Otherwise, it may or may not stay alive. Anyone?
