The black box is coded to the antenna ring around the ignition cylinder. The EWS module is coded to the chip in the key and the ECU. As long as the ECU, key chip and EWS module match and the antenna ring and black box match, everything will function. Marv17 swapped out the black box and his car would only start when the steering column with the matching antenna ring was in the car laying on the floorboard. I told him to install his original black box and the car started right up no problems. There's absolutely no need to swap out the black box, but if you do, you have to swap out the antenna ring as well.

FWIW, the OP didn't swap out the black box or the antenna.

How much does Tischer charge to align it? It really seems like that might be the issue. Especially if you ruled out the starter earlier.

I'm going to contact a buddy of mine who is a tech to see if he can do that sort of thing on a weekend. I bypassed the starter yesterday and it would churn but not push out to engage the flywheel. Soo I'm waiting for a free lift to put in my other starter to finally see if thats it.

Send me pics of your engine bay, DME location as it sits, fuse box "top view", ground locations used, and how you routed the wiring on the passenger side of the engine bay for your hot leads and grounds.

I didn't have the DME mounted in the cabin and grounded down, so I mounted the DME and I tested the copper screws and plates to see if its getting power. Got 12v out of it, so I'm positive its in the cabin good there. I tried to start the car hoping this was the issue, but still same behavior. I took plenty of pictures of my setup and power and ground/relays junk, I will upload them when I get home.
