So I sent my DME/ECU console to Barrie from Midnight Tuning Solutions probably 2 weeks ago, still pending if he has received it or not. Since I'm from California and him being in Canada I expect there to be delays and that it also has to go through customs. But lets think of a possible scenario, what if it gets lost, what are my options? can I just find a DME/ECU from ebay that matches my 96 model? would I need anything else on top of that? I'm just looking for a possible plug and play replacement should the worst possible situation happens. I did pack it and tape it very well, as soon as it left my hands I left it in the care of the post office, who knows how good they really are. In the mean time I'm driving my C55 AMG and while the power is great I want to go back to my conservative gas sipping 318ti. | | | 02-18-2013, 03:16 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | You just need the DME, EWSII box, and key chip(s) from any 96 318 donor. You need to make sure the DME is the same number (667 i think) as the one you sent to Barrie. At some point in 97 or 98 they went to 668 DMEs. Anyway, you just swap those three things out and you'd be good to go. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 02-18-2013, 04:54 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Ottawa Posts: 579 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri You just need the DME, EWSII box, and key chip(s) from any 96 318 donor. Seems to be about a three week round trip from Cali to Canada and back through customs. Key chips are in the individual keys. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 02-18-2013, 07:48 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2011 Location: Westminster,Maryland Posts: 159 | Cool,I that Barrie can also eliminate the ews with his tunnings right? | | | 02-18-2013, 09:26 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Ottawa Posts: 579 | Quote: Originally Posted by slade13 Cool,I that Barrie can also eliminate the ews with his tunnings right? | I only have EWS delete for 1995 OBD1 M42. NO EWS delete available for OBD2 M44's. I'm still working on how to remove it via the software but OBD2 328 and M3 I can remove EWS no problem | | | 12-29-2014, 12:03 AM | #9 | Member Join Date: Apr 2012 Location: Lancaster, PA. Currently the only way to bypass OBD-II EWS is with a simulator chip soldered in the DME and programed | | | 01-11-2015, 05:22 AM | #15 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Quote: Originally Posted by xxxJohnBoyxxx EWS removed is a OBD-I DME with removable chip.
