The swap itself is technically illegal in the US since the engine is OBDI and the vehicle was originally OBDII. Nice car though and the price seems really fair. BTW, that little breather you have on the rubber intake boot might cause the engine to run a little lean since it's downstream of the MAF. | | | 02-16-2011, 07:32 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Minnesota Posts: 227 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Just a fair warning to potential buyers, you may or may not have problems registering this vehicle if your state conducts emission inspections. Heck, I'd go for 7500 if I were you. Also worth noting depending on the build date, after a certain month in '98, they came with vented front rotors which is a very nice improvement compared to the solid rotors offered on earlier models. Best of luck with the sale man, someone is getting a great deal on a car that appears to have been babied it's entire life. The mileage on the engine as well as the chassis is really low for a vehicle this age | | | 02-17-2011, 03:33 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Des Plaines, IL Posts: 147 | try craig's list, over here people are too knowledgeable if you know what I mean. Nice car | I'm not quite sure if I understand where you're coming from Are you implying that the OP's car is anything less than he described and he should try to mislead people on craigslist into thinking it's something that it's not? And furthermore, if your comment is in regards to the legality of his swap, failure to disclose such information to a buyer could result in him getting sued, the car getting seized and possibly destroyed and the shop/mechanic that performed the swap being fined. As long as the buyer is aware of the legality and lives in a state/county that doesn't conduct emissions inspections, he/she will be getting a magnificent deal. You can tell this car has been babied by the tasteful mods, clean finish and low miles. It's spent it's winters indoors and it hasn't been molested with tacky mods and ghetto repairs like so many other BMW's you see these days.
