You're familiar with MD emissions, what's my best case scenario in passing if I had the codes written out? sorry for thread jack | When I first registered the ti in MD back in 2000 the car was pretty low and we skipped the treadmill. The kid working there loved the car. It was still fairly new and slammed down to the ground. He waived the inspection. I knew I couldn't get away with that the next time I had to get it inspected. That's why I had the codes written out. If the codes are written out and you have a functioning CEL, you'll pass. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-11-2012, 06:58 PM | #18 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti When I first registered the ti in MD back in 2000 the car was pretty low and we skipped the treadmill. They wont do it unless you tell them it is for a track car but it will eliminate all of the OBDII emissions related stuff and give you some extra HP as well. Really good guys to work with as well. __________________ -PTS- "Some people like cupcakes better. Every time I think I have it pegged, I go out to the car and find out that the wiring appears to be as it should be (i.e. pins on the connectors are in the right places). Anyway, I figured out that I had a few dead bulbs in my cluster. I replaced them and I now have a constant ABS light in addition to the CEL. Hopefully this will help me narrow it down. Has anyone had problems with the ti ABS module not communicating with the donor DME? __________________ -PTS- "Some people like cupcakes better. I did have problems with the DME when I got it back so I sent it back and he gave me another one that was tested for like 100 miles. Good to go from there! | | | 03-23-2014, 05:51 PM | #23 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Finally going to send my DME out. Don't have time to fiddle around with swapping exhaust flaps, cannisters, junk, etc. Thing is that I just bought the SAP, O2 sensor simulators. Might have those written out too. | | | 03-24-2014, 05:03 PM | #24 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2011 Location: CT USA Posts: 20 | I actually just wrote off this problem last fall when i put the car away for the winter, there wasnt much info on repairing it with my google searches. Now springs here and I'm getting the itch i have the same issue, 97 328is donor to 96 ti and after much frustration, my guy at the body shop who is genius flat out told me "your chassis doesnt have the sensors for the sedan DME" I just want to know where to send the ECU exactly what to ask for and $$how much$$. Ill check the TRm site but i doubt it goes into the specifics of the rewrite. Also I have the stock ECU from the 328 is that even rewritable or do i need to buy a new one? Car has been Unreg since Oct due to not being able to pass emmisions from CEL. I have replaced everything in the Emmisions controls every hose canister fuel regulator, Coils plugs O2's everything, it was all needed anyway but truly frustrating to dump $$$ and not be abble to drive my car. Connecticut will allow me to reg the car as what they call a composite or custom but if i do that i saddle myself to inspections every 2 years, no emissions tho. | | | 03-24-2014, 05:13 PM | #25 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Quote: Originally Posted by E30dewd I actually just wrote off this problem last fall when i put the car away for the winter, there wasnt much info on repairing it with my google searches. We have several options when it comes to sending our your DME to be flashed. I'll gather all the info and post again here momentarily. - edit: Received a reply back from TRM: Quote: Cedric - Thank you for your PM. For the E30, or in your case the 318Ti, this would be our "Swap Tune". Link - http://www.trmtuning.com/?product=trm-ms41-swap-tune This will allow you to fine tune with what is on your engine as well as remove the needed parts since they do not exist on your setup | Also Hakentt-MS41.1 on this site provides services as well, PM him also Last edited by BMW_Hatchback; 03-24-2014 at 05:16 PM. | | | 03-24-2014, 05:26 PM | #26 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2011 Location: CT USA Posts: 20 | I love working on my BMW, i love solving issues and "customizing" stuff in there, i HATE having to just dump $$$ for bureaucracy... Best $15 I ever spent | | | 03-27-2014, 01:39 AM | #29 | Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Denver, CO Posts: 90 | I have a thin version of the bluetooth ELM that I plugged into the ODB-II port and moved it to under the steering column, hidden away. With Torque on my phone, I have an ODB-II scanner whenever I need to monitor anything. Doing this with both my ti and x5. | | | 07-08-2014, 03:07 AM | #30 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2011 Location: CT USA Posts: 20 | Quote: Originally Posted by BMW_Hatchback You and I are in the same exact boot on the same exact ocean, and I have all of the information you need. I bought a DME recoded from Haknett over on the Bimmerforums, it solved ALL my issues, 380$ well spent I highly recommend you take this route if you havent already. Passed all emissions checks on scan too will send it through the DMV this week. Edit He also supplied a completely reconditiond DME so I didnt loose a week playing USPS tag.
