Question 328 (or non M) O2 simulators for the 328ti?

In the heat of starting the swap, anyone have any suggestions of a pair of O2 simulators? Apparently AA's/Turner/Bimmerworld M3 sims for test pipes won't work for the M52/328 applications.

I know how to make them both ways. Electronic with radio shack parts or easy way just remove from direct exhaust stream with spacer pipes.

So you are going to run test pipes and not a high flow cat or anything? Can the spacer method work without a cat?

Nice, that is good to know.

You should go with the spacer method if you can Ced.

Can you solder? If so make the Air Pump Simulator posted in the knowledge base and leave out the relay so it's on at all times. Adjust the pots to give 400mv on the O2 simulator line and your all set.

I don't like making them. Last one I made I lost money on. It's would be less then $10 in parts for the electronic one. The spacer one less then $10 too and more reliable

Very easy. You are only getting the O2 out of direct exhaust gas. I use a 90deg elbow that is threaded on one end for the O2 (female) and other end same thread but male. Screw in elbow to pipe and O2 into elbow. Now you O2 is out of the exhaust stream but still gets exhaust gas passing by it.

When it is out of the direct exhaust gas stream it reads a lower value and trick the DME into thinking the cat converter is working correctly.

You can use a straight pipe or anything that will fit you application. Your only goal is to get the O2 head that sticks in the exhaust pipe out of the pipe so it is not hit with direct exhaust stream gas. I think a spark plug saver for cars that foul plugs with oil works too. I have a few in the garage so let me look and see if they fit....
