The only way I think I can fit it is to use a bodyshop adhesive. Has any one else tried using the bolts, and if so were there any problems? | | | 09-08-2008, 09:04 PM | #2 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | A lot of people here are using double sided tape, however if you're uncomfortable using it since most of the spoilers people on this forum have installed mount flush rather than raised, you could use DOW BetaSeal. It's what auto body shops use to adhere moldings and such. It dries rubbery with an EXTREMELY strong bond. It cures in just a couple of hours. It's actual purpose is to seal windshields. It costs about 25 bucks a tube and you'll need a caulking gun. It's generally not available to the public, however you might be able to get some from your local auto-glass shop or body shop. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 09-08-2008, 09:20 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: London Posts: 25 | Thanks for replying, I think the adhesive is the only way to go, as it has to be flush mounted, I think the UK bodyshops use a product called Tigerseal, I will google it and see what the difference is. | | | 09-08-2008, 10:06 PM | #4 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | can you show us some pics? | | | 09-08-2008, 10:34 PM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: London Posts: 25 | I post pics tomorrow when it's light | | | 09-09-2008, 01:26 PM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: London Posts: 25 | Rear hatch photos Rear hatch panel off Left corner Left corner Left side Right corner Spoiler | | | 09-09-2008, 04:26 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | mine is mounted with screws and double sided tape... its hard to explain how the screws are in there, they are very close to the edge, right before the "fold"... I paid a body shop to paint and mount it ($150~) __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 09-09-2008, 04:37 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | I have the same one mounted on my car. When someone rear ended me, I had the bumper repainted, and I begged the guy to mount the spoiler. At first he didn't wanna do it. In the end he mounted it, but I never did find out how he did it. Had to drill holes and that might create rust. make sure if you drill get rid of all the metal shavings if you do decide to drill. | | | 09-09-2008, 08:14 PM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: London Posts: 25 | Thanks for the replies guys, I've drilled a hole for the centre mount and even that was double skinned, but I think it will hold it securely enough, as for the rest I think it's going to have to be body shop glue. I've spoken to my bodyshop and he says they use it for most of their mouldings, and once on its easier to cut off than pull off. I'll post pics when painted and fitted (end of the week), then it's the fitting of M3 style mirrors with indicators, which also looks harder than previously thought. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
