HP is cheap, while chassis tuning and similar engineering that leads to less quantitative gains are more costly - why sell a quality product when people love the McRib? Real quality, as with anything, is sought out by enthusiasts. | Coming from a marketing POF, this is especially true. I'm glad there are cars like the 2009 RT Challenger, that giant clunky coupe that tough guys around here love to abuse the highway roads in. Those are the kind of cars that help some of us identify and distinguish someone who appreciates marvelous engineering from someone who just wants something with stripes and a V8, living off of past glory. Don't get me wrong, I'd love an old school Challenger any day (not as first car), but the new crap that they're rehashing and dropping V8s in don't do anything for me... except show me who's the biggest tool on the road. But I hardly have these thoughts while actually driving, I'm usually too busy trying to get my slow Ti out of the way of highway hogs Last edited by BMW_Hatchback; 02-06-2013 at 10:05 PM. | | | 02-06-2013, 11:14 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | +1...but American muscle cars were cool for those of us who were teenagers back in the 60's. | | | 02-06-2013, 11:20 PM | #7 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Quote: Originally Posted by jca +1...but American muscle cars were cool for those of us who were teenagers back in the 60's. | A whole different ball game there. I respect that era, and love the cars. The vanilla V8s like the challenger are a joke compared to the raw muscle that once was. I DO however like the remake of the GTO, for some odd reason | | | 02-15-2013, 08:51 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: San Diego Posts: 231 | My first and second cars were 1970 Challengers and I can tell you the new ones smoke them in every way possible. They handled horribly - just awfully - they got 9 mpg, there was no overdrive and you are doing like 6,500 rpm at only 100 mph. They have no a/c, and rollup windows. They were smaller and lighter than the present day model Charger and Challenger. Engine technology has advanced to the point where you can buy a Jeep that easily beats the 1970 Hemi Challenger in the quarter. But if I had held onto them and also the 1969 four speed Cuda I would now be the proud owner of $250,000 in machinery. | | | 02-15-2013, 02:46 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Ft Defiance, AZ Posts: 686 | Quote: Originally Posted by BMW_Hatchback I DO however like the remake of the GTO, for some odd reason | Probably because it was a Holden __________________ 1999 BMW 318ti 2005 MINI Cooper S | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | Similar Threads | Thread | Thread Starter | Forum | Replies | Last Post | CA 1998 BMW 318ti, M-Sport, DASC, Active | Trusted-1 | Cars for Sale | 16 | 02-12-2013 06:26 AM | As the thread title says...I really really want a 318ti | illini837 | I'm thinking about buying a ti. | 13 | 04-15-2011 03:54 AM | KS '95 318ti - Supercharger, Sport Package, Many Extras | onewhippedpuppy | US and North America | 18 | 03-18-2011 02:41 AM | MO 95 318ti parts M42, Getrag Trany, ECU, cluster, exhaust, etc | PhotoMotion | US and North America | 5 | 04-06-2010 06:07 AM | 318ti DASC SPORT ACTIVE HEATED SEATS ALPINE WHITE BBS MOTORSPORT INTERIOR | inlacal | US and North America | 27 | 12-07-2007 04:01 PM | |
