Default CRAZY first 318ti story : (

[13:00] boredelmo: so i searched for a car like this for about a year, finding the right color condition and price, find it yesterday, make an appointment for this morning, couldnt sleep from excitement, was nervous because a guy was looking at it before me in the morning (didnt want him to buy it from under me), get a call and he tells me the other buyer never showed up, get more excited, meet up, the car is in
perfect condition inside and out, allservice and all new parts, test drive it for about 30 minutes, make him an offer lower than his price, he accepts, we sign over the titel and i give him the money, drive it to work, and then it breaks down and dies, ALL OF THIS HAPPENING WITH THE LAST HOUR just NOW. [13:01] boredelmo: but the good thing is, he was still in the area when it happened, he came to pick up the car and is taking it to the shop as we speak and is going to pay for everything. [13:03] boredelmo: excited, calm, excited, super satisfied, SUPER HAPPY NEW OWNER, SUPER DUPER LET DOWN, consoled a bit, and calm all within this past hour [13:03] boredelmo: my emotions are running wild

Ok this all just happened about an hour ago. I was telling a friend on aim so i just copy and pasted it. Sorry about it being typed all retarded. It was on AIM and I was and still am super overcome by emotion : (. I spent all last night on this nice little forum looking at all the things i would be doing to it (HIDs, drop, lip, FOGGing the intake). It made me super extra excited.

Here's a pic of the actual car. It's a '95. Everything was MINT MINT MINT. He has the alt, bat, plug wires, tires and everything replaced. And the head was rebuilt at 60k (now sits at 160k). New tires, everything. He included his well used haynes manual (good sign of a good owner). First stop light, took a left, gave it 3/4 throttle and then the engine starts idling rough, 200-850 ish (not sure, was just super bummed). CEL comes on then turns off. Get it to work (rough idle all the way). Kill it and restart it, rough idle and dies. The guy came and picked it up and is going to go clean the ICV valve and replace the brake pads while he is at it. Says he's driven it once every 3 weeks since he got his new car and that he wasn't aware of the problem. Very honorable seller. HOPEFULLY that'll fix things. What do you guys think?

I signed up just now, it happened just now, just wanted to share and hopefully i can make a follow up post about being a new owner . I must compliment this forum though, i am part for a larger forum (houston car forum) with almost 20k posts there. This one seems to have very on-topic posts and plenty of helpful threads. Well, theres my intro, wish me luck!

Wow, that's pretty intense. It's a rough start, but at least the seller is taking care of it. Congrats and welcome to the forum!

welcome, good thing the owner was so honest, although, from the way you worded it, sounds like you posted this from work don't let your boss catch you

ok he said he's cleaned the ICV valve recently.

He said the gas in the car is old and maybe the ethanol is expiring. Would a new fuel filter help?

probably, it can't hurt anything at least, and may prevent you from having problems in the future

New filter is always in order when buying a used auto.

Thats pretty awesome that the seller is willing to do that. I've read too many horror stories where the seller just disappears once the money changes hands.

FWIW, I did a full tune-up on my car when I got it and it ran way better, all new filters, oil, plugs, etc. Calmed the idle down and had more power and better fuel mileage.
