When you said "3", it thought you said 3", as in 3 inches. Don't ask Plz dyno the pod. If you use the velcro and zip tie that SLR provides with their chips, and attach the chip to it, I'm pretty sure you'll have the fastest iPod around. And plus, SLR chips are relatively cheap!
