Lightbulb m52 swap what exhaust!????(dual)

wow not much in the exhaust section! suprises me seeing us ti's have the single tip muffler/single cut-out bumper. Anyway I wanna keep my rear bumper and just cut-out another hole on pass.side for dual tips! .but am interested to hear what you swapped ti's are running and suggestions. I've got the 328i full exhaust to use... can I use it's cats and than from the cats back use an e46 m3 dual exhaust set up or will I have to fab. something? thnx

You will have to do some fancy fabricating to keep your spare and have dual exhaust. Personally I think a spare tire is better to have than a second exhaust exit.

If you are considering an E46 M3 rear muffler consider this. The Dinan exhaust for the E46 M3 is black, it is black because it only uses one side and they did not want polished stainless tips to change color on one side and not the other.

The only reason to do dual exhaust would be if you are in love with the look. It is 100% not needed and will likely cause you to lose the spare.

Most of the swapped guys run a stock exhaust to somewhere around the rear sub frame and have a muffler shop weld up the rest with a rear muffler and tip.

well it would look sick.... I dunno I just find even the 2 tip 328 exhaust looks better than a single tip. Anyway so can I use the 328 exhaust chopped down with the ti muffler? or will the ti exhaust some how bolt up to the M52 headers? hey and BimmerBum how much would that sskit be to ship to Canada? It looks super nice!!
323ti valance fits? sweet ...one the reasons I wann keep my rear bumper is I have a 2tone paint job I wanna keep. I still think dual exhaust would look sick! in BlueBimma's thread "4cyl to 6cyl swap" on Bimmerforums he has pics of a dual set-up on a ti looks custom fabd though 4sure.

Ive fabbed up many exhaust setups for my i6s and v8 and will say that the Mroadster catback is very nice but i absolutely loved the way my 1.9L supersprint catback sounded with the 2.5. I ran duals on my Moreagrun ti, used baffled mufflers......very bad, otherwise, looked great and sounded great idling only. I removed my spare but didnt remove the spare well. I figure, if i ever need a spare to put on the car, ill likely just get a tow, you cant go very far nor fast on a doughnut. If it were a full size spare, likely i custom fitted to my sisters ti, then i wouldve kept it.

hmm I think I can get a Z3 exhaust... what years? also would 328i exhaust have the right bends for a ti? or should I just run the 328 exhaust up to the cats than put my 318ti catback?....lol hold on thats sounds ridiculous now I'm totally confused? I seen a few 318ti's with e46 m3 mufflers looks great! Also losing the spares no prob. as this isn't a daily driver just purely for fun! so what do you mean by losing the spare? do you mount the muffler in the spare well? haha lol... I actually don't remember how the spares set up

To use the E46 M3 muffler you will have to remove the spare. The muffler will sit right where your spare sits. Do you have any pics of ti's with the E46 M3 rear muffler?

you can use the z3 2.8 exhaust, it bolts up to the m52 manifold.
you will have to weld a section of pipe in before the cat to make it fit the ti. then you can use any ti back box.
for dual exit, you will have to cut away and plate up the bowl type thing that the spare wheel sits in under the boot carpet. it is right in the way of fitting a dual exit exhaust. quite a lot of work for 0% performance increase.
just get a z3 2.8 centre section, and a twin exit back box. job done!

Not all Z3 2.8's have the same engine (and therefore exhaust) 97-98 models have the cat after the exhaust manifolds. 99-00 models have cats that are part of the exhaust manifolds so the center section has no cats.

I would imagine any year would fit but they will require different exhaust manifolds/headers and only the early 97-98's will come with cats if that matters to you.

97-98 2.8 Z3 Exhaust:

-Has cats in the exhaust system
-The required exhaust manifolds do not have cats

99-00 Z3 2.8 Exhaust:

-Has no cats in the exhaust system
-The required exhaust manifolds have cats in them but you can simply use eBay headers from the M52tu (ie E46 323/328) in place of the exhaust manifolds

Hope that helps.
