As long as the ECU, key chip and EWS module match and the antenna ring and black box match, everything will function. Marv17 swapped out the black box and his car would only start when the steering column with the matching antenna ring was in the car laying on the floorboard. I told him to install his original black box and the car started right up no problems. There's absolutely no need to swap out the black box, but if you do, you have to swap out the antenna ring as well. FWIW, the OP didn't swap out the black box or the antenna. | | | 09-29-2009, 08:20 PM | #212 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 The black box is coded to the antenna ring around the ignition cylinder. It really seems like that might be the issue. Especially if you ruled out the starter earlier. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 09-29-2009, 11:31 PM | #215 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri How much does Tischer charge to align it? Especially if you ruled out the starter earlier. | I'm going to contact a buddy of mine who is a tech to see if he can do that sort of thing on a weekend. I bypassed the starter yesterday and it would churn but not push out to engage the flywheel. Soo I'm waiting for a free lift to put in my other starter to finally see if thats it. | | | 10-01-2009, 12:48 AM | #216 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Send me pics of your engine bay, DME location as it sits, fuse box "top view", ground locations used, and how you routed the wiring on the passenger side of the engine bay for your hot leads and grounds. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-01-2009, 12:59 AM | #217 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | coming up | | | 10-01-2009, 11:50 PM | #218 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | I didn't have the DME mounted in the cabin and grounded down, so I mounted the DME and I tested the copper screws and plates to see if its getting power. Got 12v out of it, so I'm positive its in the cabin good there. I tried to start the car hoping this was the issue, but still same behavior. I took plenty of pictures of my setup and power and ground/relays junk, I will upload them when I get home. | | | 10-01-2009, 11:55 PM | #219 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Get your butt home then. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-02-2009, 12:29 AM | #220 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | present and accounted for, pics momentarily | | | 10-02-2009, 01:40 AM | #221 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | | | | 10-02-2009, 01:46 AM | #222 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | middle plug has nothing to plug into Last edited by BMW_Hatchback; 10-02-2009 at 01:57 AM. | | | 10-02-2009, 01:50 AM | #223 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | DME relay above and below unknown relay on passenger side, looks just like the relay up top ^^ Last edited by BMW_Hatchback; 10-02-2009 at 01:59 AM. | | | 10-02-2009, 01:53 AM | #224 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Last edited by BMW_Hatchback; 10-02-2009 at 02:02 AM. | | | 10-02-2009, 01:56 AM | #225 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | M52 Ews plugged in and mounted my old EWS module DME mounted and grounded in bracket unknown plate I found leftover Last edited by BMW_Hatchback; 10-02-2009 at 02:04 AM. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
