I just threw this together. It was pretty damn easy once I got everything cut. I will also use vinyl or something like that instead of carpet. These are the other mods to my console that I am currently working on Just wanted to share it before I actually put it in tomorrow __________________ I'm back with a different 95 ti | | | 05-11-2006, 05:36 AM | #2 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 90 | A quick question, If you are hooking it up to an Alpine connector (as per the pic above) then when plugged in it will display //Alpine on the iPod and you will not be able to control the iPod directly. If that is the case (as mine is the same) then why would you want to have the iPod there? pass the cable to the glove box and put the iPod in there. If you are going to use a direct connect FM tuner (non direct connect fm tuners suck) then, yes, that is a good location and was where i was going to mount mine (till i got the new alpine). Did you retrofit your quarter windows to be power? __________________ -Kenny | | | 05-11-2006, 06:06 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Berkeley, CA Posts: 411 | The specs on the cable said it doesn't put it in dock mode giving you easier access to playlists. If that is the case then I will make a bracket for the glovebox. I still haven't gotten it as I pinched a nerve in my back and haven't really left the house. Rear power windows are coming soon. __________________ I'm back with a different 95 ti | | | 05-11-2006, 06:13 AM | #5 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 90 | hmmmm.. The two iPod connection methods for an alpine head unit (AFAIK) are direct connect (with the new head units like mine) or via an adaptor box on older head units. As i understand it, both lock up the iPod. your system may be different but i havn't heard of it. __________________ Ian '97 Ti Sport DASC, TT S2, B&M SSk, x-brace, H&R coil overs & sway bars, Big brakes | | | 05-11-2006, 06:30 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Berkeley, CA Posts: 411 | Ill have to try and find out where I read that. I just remembered specifically reading that it doesnt dock. Oh well. I can just make a box for the glove box then. Oh well back to the drawing board. __________________ I'm back with a different 95 ti | | | 05-11-2006, 06:32 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 90 | Check and test before you trash what you have done.. i'm just saying the options and i understand it.. perhaps there is a different method that i cannot get over here. I will be waiting til I go to the doctor tomorrow and find out how much that will cost before I get the cable. Then it is a matter of building a dock or a bracket. I already have an aluminum case. __________________ I'm back with a different 95 ti | | | 05-11-2006, 07:14 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Berkeley, CA Posts: 411 | __________________ I'm back with a different 95 ti | | | 05-11-2006, 01:09 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: No Where Posts: 297 | Quote: Originally Posted by saintly A quick question, If you are hooking it up to an Alpine connector (as per the pic above) then when plugged in it will display //Alpine on the iPod and you will not be able to control the iPod directly. Ian | That's kinda like what I did. I just put all my songs on random, don't have to worry about them playlists. I have a Toshiba Gigabeat, black of course. Here is a pic, you can get the idea: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...79_11_full.jpg | | | 05-12-2006, 06:21 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Lynchburg, VA Posts: 200 | Quote: Originally Posted by Variance Wait, rear windows? I don't know when I will get to do it but I am going to. __________________ I'm back with a different 95 ti | | | 05-12-2006, 06:43 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: No Where Posts: 297 | Here are the details. I bought the Alpine deck for $120, bought the $20 upgrade for the output that plugs in the back of the deck, had Audio Express in Tempe, AZ install it for $1, misc parts was like $30 or so, and, VOILA! Instant iPod/Gigabeat/Whatever can plug into it ready. If you are gong to do it yourself, then I'm not 100% sure on a "walkthough," but it sounded like a faily easy install. On the Alpine deck that I have, the output just plugs right into the back on the deck. I'm sure a stereo install place in your area can get you info and pricing. It was cheap for me to have someone else install it, so I figured, why not? Hope this helps in some sort of weird way. If not, I apologize. | | | 05-12-2006, 07:32 PM | #15 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | My friend has a new Alpine HU and once the ipod is hooked up to the HU the ipod has no use. The screen simply says Alpine and you can't use any of the controls on it. Once hooked up everything is controlled by the HU. Only downside to the Alpine Hu's is if you are searching for an artist it is so damn slow. It takes me like 60 seconds to go from A-K which i find to be a pain in the butt. Right now i have a little over 4,xxx songs and it's not fun searching for your artist on the HU, Play lists become your friend. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
