I want to perform both tranny and diff. liquid changes and need to know what to use. MTF or Dexron for tranny and I think 75W90 for diff. Thanks. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 09-24-2006, 08:03 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | I think I used Redline 75W90 oil for my diff Quote: Originally Posted by weezer I've searched through the threads, but I can't seem to find a solid info on this. Which transmission type do you have? | | | 09-30-2006, 03:17 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | getrag 220 5spd, I think I got the model number right. | | | 09-30-2006, 03:50 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | Not that I know much about this, but I'm pretty sure that Dextron and Mercron are both automatic transmission fluids. Don't put those into your tranny. | | | 09-30-2006, 03:55 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 290 | The tranny calls for ATF. I use Redline D4 ATF. Some people use a thicker gear oil though. | | | 09-30-2006, 04:27 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | ATF alone causes alot of noise with the UUC Stage II. A mix of ATF/140NS is supposed to completely rid it. I used MT90 cause Titanmotorsports was out of 140NS..so I compromised but it hasn't turned out to be a huge issue. | | | 09-30-2006, 04:41 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Quote: Originally Posted by angel318ti for transmission dexron. its a pain in the a$s pumping it in since there is no dipstick so make sure you have a pump or some method of getting your fluid where it belongs. | http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8142 __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 09-30-2006, 08:19 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | I just did my diff. fluid change. I just used Mobil1 75W90. The next time I will definitely try using Redline. It was pretty easy, although I thought it takes more than 1 quart and a half, but as soon as it starts to overflow, I plugged it up. I will want to do the brake fluid bleed/flush and the tranny next. Next year: the ater pump, radiator and thremo. Thanks a million, guys. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 10-01-2006, 10:47 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | our waterpumps are only 58$ from PelicanParts for the Graf model, which has a metal impellor. for the trans, buy a simple fluid pump since the fill is on the side and can be a PITA at times. I used a gravity feed with a used I.V. stand before I got my pump. the stand helped, but the pump made the job cake. One thing. The Redline gear oil unless noted has additives for the limited slip in the diff. The Mobil1 doesn't IIRC, you have to add them yourself, not a huge issue..really not a issue, but def something to have the knowledge of. | | | 10-03-2006, 12:02 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Gilroy Posts: 158 | is there thread on here that explains how to change the diff. fluid on here somewhere??
