I have heard from this forum that the limiter cuts in before i do any engine damage, but I have pegged my tach needle (accidentally) a couple of times autocrossing. I don't ever hear the revs "bounce off" any limiter, sooo... yea, kind of freaked out by it. | | | 10-14-2007, 06:54 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | While I would not bounce off of the rev limiter all of the time it should not cause any problems... I've been in situations before where it was better to set at or bounce on the rev limiter instead of trying to shift in a corner... You can only do damage by money-shifting... Which usually happens when you are at a high rev in third gear meaning to go into fourth gear and you put it into second gear by accident... The rev limiter can not save you there. | | | 10-14-2007, 10:54 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Anaheim, CA Posts: 125 | now i know this doenst have to do with the engine...but thers a huge bolt under my gas pedel, and i was just wondering do they do that so you dont ruin the car, or is that something else? it just keeps me from pushing the gas all the way to the floor it sticks out about 2 or 3 inchs | | | 10-15-2007, 10:16 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Quote: Originally Posted by jkhania When im driving on the freeway. i shift into 5th and once i got over like 65 i feel like the car is working too hard. at like 80 its at 4000 rpms is this normal? or is my car need to be fixed? and then what needs to be fixed? | My M44 engine (what have you got?) drones a bit around 4000 rpm, so I either like to spin it more slowly or more quickly -- especially more quickly, if I can, as the engine starts to burble. At 5000th in 5th, engine and driver are happy. | | | 10-16-2007, 10:26 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Memphis, Tn Posts: 1,299 | Quote: Originally Posted by jkhania now i know this doenst have to do with the engine...but thers a huge bolt under my gas pedel, and i was just wondering do they do that so you dont ruin the car, or is that something else? it just keeps me from pushing the gas all the way to the floor it sticks out about 2 or 3 inchs | all of the bmw's that i have driven have it. I dont think it keeps you from going any faster. Just something there. not sure what the real reason for it being there is but maybe someone else could help us out and let us know. __________________ custom dual exhaust,M3 front and rear bumper, 10.4 inch roof mount drop screen, Viper alarm system, DSII's rims, M3 Vader Seats, M3 Mirrors, Carbon Fiber CAI, Smoked Corners, Side Markers, Leatherz armrests, black grilles 225k miles and still the Ti goes on | | | 10-16-2007, 08:55 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Pittsburgh, PA Posts: 1,224 | cosmetic/comfort/whatever so you don't have to extend your foot past any usable travel of the pedal. If you experiment a little, you'll find that you get wide open throttle without having to stop the pedal all the way down. It's like having a clutch stop. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
