Every time i accelerate my car quickly my car just bogs and i have a suspicion it might be misfiring. Its literally soo slow that i cant even accelerate fast enough to get on the highway ramp wihtout it bucking and hesitating. Also the ennginge refuses to go above 5000 rpms. By the time it hits 3500-4000 rpms it just starts bucking violently and i get too scared to push it further. O yeah if its relevant my Asc light flashes on and off and my brake light is on. there was a similar thread on bimmerforums, but after reading through all 88 pages of it, i still have no idea what the cause is So based on the symptoms described, does anyone think they know what the cause is? Has anyone had these problems? | | | 12-14-2007, 03:53 AM | #2 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | what kind of weather are you in when this occurs? if it's nice and dry (no reason for your car to be slipping), it sounds like the ASC is coming on when it shouldn't be (my guess it that it thinks for some reason that your rear tires are slipping). does you have any codes stored? does the engine run really rough like it's missing? __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 12-14-2007, 04:08 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | Like Cali-Ti said, could be your ASC. When you start the car, disengage the ASC, and see if the problem goes away. It seems to [I]really[I] bog down in warm weather i dont know why though. Again, pressing the ASC does nothing its almost as if the button doesn't do anything. Do you guys think it could be a vacum leak, plugs, injectors, MAF sensors and stuff like that? whatabout the cranksaft positioning sensor? | | | 12-14-2007, 05:19 AM | #5 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | cracked intake boot or loose oil cap? Take off the ribbed flexboot between the MAF and ASC valve, check inside of it for cracks or splits. Also have you recently added oil or taken off the oil fill cap? If so, make sure you tightened it securely. It's possible to only engage 1 side of the oil cap and then twist it to the stop point thinking it's on completely. If this is the case, your car won't run right and you'll get similar symptoms. Good Luck, keep us posted. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 01-03-2008, 11:58 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: CG68 Posts: 280 | I'm having this issue as well... Motor won't even rev past 2000 rpm without cutting out and popping, bucking violently etc. It only happens after heavy rain and usually goes away, but this time it hasn't. Thought the DME might be wet, but I pulled it and even let it out over night. No change. I'm gonna start replacing things, but if anyone knows what the culprit is, I'd be grateful to know. Also tap on the cat to see if it is solid if not that could be a big part of the problem. vacum leaks usualy cause other isues __________________ 99 black ti sport | | | 01-04-2008, 12:28 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: CG68 Posts: 280 | Hah, yeah I used to get a CEL until the f*cking last shop I used in PA disabled it... This is really unlike anything I've experienced. It will rev and idle just like normal until it hits 3k or whatever it decides to be that day, and it just sits there and bounces, just like hitting a fuel cut except with much more drama and popping, bleching, etc. | | | 01-06-2008, 12:51 AM | #9 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Michigan Posts: 46 | As far as i know, i have never had a cel but maybe the previous owner disabled it. Wow KetteringTi seems to have the same problem too. Does anyone have any ideas? I changed my fuel filter with no changes... | | | 01-06-2008, 12:58 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Saint Louis, MO Posts: 143 | check your fuel pressure, sounds like a fuel pressure regulator or a huge vacuum leak. those can cause crazy hesitation and "bucking". __________________ 1997 318ti sport 1972 2002 sleeper | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
