Default New headunit with existing cd changer?

Not to clued up on head units but is it possible to replace the oem headunit with an aftermarket headunit and still keep the oem 6 disc changer? The changer works well but the headunit is flakey. (Car is a Late 97 japenese import to NZ)

Cheers.

Hi

I encountered this problem and as far as I know, you cannot hook up an aftermarket head unit to the autochanger. I have just changed my head unit (mainly because I wanted to hook up a sub in the near future) and the advice i was given was that due to new head units being geared up towards MP3 etc the autochanger is too old a technology to be supported.
A bit like trying to hook up a parrallel Printer to a new PC.
So now I have a redundant autochanger in the back.
