(in tx, this is a nightmare...) i look forward to getting to know everyone and learning about the 318's -vince | | | 05-28-2010, 07:46 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: Lancaster PA Posts: 274 | Welcome. Still have your MK V? How do you sleep at night with the cam follower issue? At least if you had an 06-07. One of my happiest days was trading the MK V in on a 04 330i ZHP. Window is a common failure issue on the 318ti. There is a great DIY on this site for fixing it. Poke around, you will find answers for most of your questions. | | | 05-28-2010, 10:30 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Austin, TX Posts: 4 | yup, still have the MKV... it's an 08 though so they got most of the bugs out. i love my GTI but i wanted a project car and the 318ti is perfect for it | | | 05-28-2010, 10:45 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: San antonio, tx Posts: 135 | fyi----there is a very active bmw club located in austin. you can find info at the chapter website www.tejaschapter.org. they have a lot of social events---drives thru the hill country, bluebonnet tours, bbq's, etc, and a wide range of cars, so you can probably tap into some local knowledge, with recommendations for reliable shops for service if needed. good luck and enjoy! | | | 05-28-2010, 11:15 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: Lancaster PA Posts: 274 | Quote: Originally Posted by mkvtg37 yup, still have the MKV... it's an 08 though so they got most of the bugs out. i love my GTI but i wanted a project car and the 318ti is perfect for it | Got to love a motor redesign after 2 years. 08 was clearly superior to what I had. They took the air filter out of the engine cover and made the fuel pump cam a 4 lobe affair for less wear. My friends that have them love them. But, it ain't no ZHP! You will have lots of fun working on the 318, once sorted out, they appear to be pretty reliable. | | | 05-30-2010, 03:50 PM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Austin, TX Posts: 4 | Quote: Originally Posted by macilona fyi----there is a very active bmw club located in austin. you can find info at the chapter website www.tejaschapter.org. they have a lot of social events---drives thru the hill country, bluebonnet tours, bbq's, etc, and a wide range of cars, so you can probably tap into some local knowledge, with recommendations for reliable shops for service if needed. good luck and enjoy! | thank you so much for the link, i'll def. check into their site. i would love to attend a couple of meets. I am in Austin too and looking for my first 318ti. If you find one, please let me know. I did see a clean black one off of Duval, and a red one on Parmer. Might that be one of you? | | | 06-08-2010, 08:06 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Austin Posts: 3,059 | Quote: Originally Posted by arcteryx Sorry for the Hijack.
