Default Pump on inlet?

Hi guys, got a 318TI 1998. Am i right in thinking there is a air pump on the side of the inlet? If so, anyway of removing this without causing running concerns? Read the how to on the simulator but its not clear if its ok for M44. Also does the emulator allow me to remove the plastic rubbish bolted all over the side of my inlet or is there gaping holes under it, ive never removed one so i wont know, hence asking. May sound stupid to some people, never come across these before.

Also charcoal canister, can i ditch that without issues?

Cheers in advance.
