Question check engine light on, need help

My check engine came up a few weeks ago. I brought my car to a mechanic; he said that he wouldn't have time to fix my car that day, but he checked it anyways. Unfortunately this guy is not a BMW speciality and he didn't know where the hell he put his code book, so he can't tell me what's wrong with the car. He reset the light for me; it came up a few days latte, but he car is still running fine. The code is 1174. I'm just wondering if any one happens to know what that is. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks.

According to this site, there is no 1174.
You are probably better off finding someone with scan tool to read the code yourself.

Default OLD THREAD ALERT

96ti, try to clear out your PMs, I can't send you any. I'm wondering what this code ended up being. Mine is throwing the same code and it won't pass emissions. Help is greatly appreciated!

1174 is the cam position sensor. 1175 is the cam control failure code.

(you need a new cam position sensor. It'll run you about $60)
These are not OBD-I codes, rather, OBD-II codes.
