Default fogged airbox piccies

Finally got around to fogging me airbox & thought you might like to see a few piccies.

I brought all the bits needed a while ago from the local hardware store (100mm ally tumble dryer hose, plastic reduction piece, etc) but when I got it
all home.....thought fuk this, I aint putting bloody washing machine bits on my beautiful BMW. So started looking for something a bit nicer that would do the job.
Enter 'pipercross cold air induction kit', basicly just a flexible hose & a pair of bellmouths. Perfect. They do make them in 100mm diameter but I decided on a 75mm pipe, makes for a much neater install & I doubt very much if the smaller diameter will restrict air flow noticably.

so, whip the airbox out & cut the 3" hole with a holesaw (so much easier than a dremel). Offer up the bellmouth to airbox & drill fixing holes in situ.

Bolt em together.

& back in the car. (note new horn mounting on side of airbox)

Car pulls much better at higher rpm now & it only took a couple of hours (and I like to take me time).

Couple questions:

Where can I find one of those bellmouths? at a hardware store?

Also, something I have been wondering for a long time, what is that large plastic chamber that hangs off the left side of the airbox lid? (can be seen in the bottom picture) It doesn't seem to lead anywhere..........

I looked that plastic chamber up on realoem.com, it is called a resonator. Has anyone taken theirs off? Perhaps it would change the sound?

I doubt you'll find one in a hardware store, try your local tuning shop or motor factors. I got mine from motech in the UK.
