I ran into these rotors on ebay. The price is pretty good considering they are Cross-Drilled and Slotted (Front and Rear). The guy told me they were either CENTRIC OR DURA(??). My wife drive the car and she is not a very spirited driver, I'd consider here NORMAL driver. But, safety is a concern for me, so I need to take that into consideration before I buy. Any opinions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8031289512 | | | 01-21-2006, 03:13 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I am neither a fan of cross drilled or slotted. I pay around $55 for front vented rotors with a 20% CCA discount. Are those solid or vented? What rotors do you use? Do you really need rear rotors? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-21-2006, 04:09 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | watch out for those cross drilled. i heard they have a tendancy to crack, especially if they are not forged, or is it the other way around? i just always hear people say to stay away from them unless they are a really good brand. i heard slotted are better? __________________ | | | 01-21-2006, 07:21 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Dec 2003 Location: Los Angeles, SoCal Posts: 77 | The price looked to good to be true. 1996 328ti - Why do you ask if I need rear rotors? My car is obviously a 1998 Prod. 3/98 and I believe my front rotors are non-vented. Any other suggestions? thanks | | | 01-21-2006, 07:46 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | There is no performance benefit from either cross-drilling or slotting rotors. They are merely aesthetic. The "most safe" rotor is a vented rotor, since it does its job the best. If you buy them from a dealer, they are also center-balanced properly, and are warrantied from a year. Of course, you need decent pads, and to flush your brake fluid system regularly (~every 2 years for normal street driving). __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 01-21-2006, 07:49 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | worry more about your pads than your rotors for performance. going to normal 3ser vented rotors is what you need if You want brake performance. | | | 01-23-2006, 08:37 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Dec 2003 Location: Los Angeles, SoCal Posts: 77 | If the car currently does not have vented rotors, then I would need to upgrade. What are the required parts for such an upgrade and is it worth the extra $$$ and labor for normal street driving?? | | | 01-23-2006, 08:57 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: cali Posts: 338 | i have some rotors front and rear cross drill and slotted.
