Default Headlight upgrades

So I'm looking for better light spread. The stock ones aren't doing it for me. So what would you guys suggest.

HID
Silverstars
PIAA

Or should I replace the assembly for a different setup?

What do you guys run?
I do not really care about looks I'm all about function.
Whats up?

in my stocker headlights i have the newest available silverstars ($70 for 2 bulbs) and they are BRIGHT.

If you don't want to replace the whole assembly, thats your best bet. Day & Night over stock.

Can you provide more ID for these bulbs. Is Siverstar the brand name? Have they a part number or some other description? Are they the same electrical draw as stock bulbs?

uhm... just go to your local parts place like autozone or walmart... i forget the name of them but they are made by silverstar and they are the "new and improved" version, you'll know them when you see the price- as they are NOT cheap. Like i said $70 CDN for 2 headlight bulbs.

either place should carry them, they are pure stock replacements, 9006's IIRC, there is no point in replacing the inner lights ( 9005's ) with these high quality bulbs, just get the low level silverstars for those, as they do not emitt the same hue of lighting as the outer lenses unless the highbeams are on.

IMO, from a distance, you cannot tell if they are bulbs or HIDs, they are very close in comparison. The only downside is silverstars do not last a long time, but ive yet to have a burn out with the "newer" version.

Default Siverstar, a little research

Silverstars are made by Sylvania. The newest, brightest are the Silverstar Ultras (9006 SU - low beam, 9005 SU high beam). The color of these bulbs is 4100k (bright white).
As the above poster suggested, there's probably little need for the Ultra in the high beam positon. Instead, one could use the Silverstar 9005 ST. Color is very close at 4000k. Thus when using brights, color would appear the same in each lamp.
Silverstar bulbs are direct replacements for our cars. Did a Google search. Prices vary according to source but is appears a two pack of Ultras can be had for $25 to $30 USD.

I believe 8k HIDs look the best and put out pretty good light. Mine are running 4 years strong. Hurray for my 100th post.

Also important, whether you go with either halogen or HID, try not to touch the glass part of the bulb with your fingers. It's said that it makes the bulbs more likely to burn out prematurely, though I've never encountered it.

You sure about that? Mine have quite a nice variety of bluish-green tinges to them...

I just ordered my DEPO euro-spec HID H1's 35w 6k w/ angel eyes and smoked corners to match.

I thought about just switching to a nice bulb like the Silverstone but the us spec headlights are so crappy and almost always have a faded cloudy look I felt euro-specs were the only way to go.
