If you don't want to replace the whole assembly, thats your best bet. Day & Night over stock. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 04-17-2008, 07:53 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: SW Michigan Posts: 90 | Quote: Originally Posted by rwd_king in my stocker headlights i have the newest available silverstars ($70 for 2 bulbs) and they are BRIGHT. Have they a part number or some other description? Are they the same electrical draw as stock bulbs? _Rick | | | 04-17-2008, 08:02 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | uhm... just go to your local parts place like autozone or walmart... i forget the name of them but they are made by silverstar and they are the "new and improved" version, you'll know them when you see the price- as they are NOT cheap. Like i said $70 CDN for 2 headlight bulbs. either place should carry them, they are pure stock replacements, 9006's IIRC, there is no point in replacing the inner lights ( 9005's ) with these high quality bulbs, just get the low level silverstars for those, as they do not emitt the same hue of lighting as the outer lenses unless the highbeams are on. IMO, from a distance, you cannot tell if they are bulbs or HIDs, they are very close in comparison. The only downside is silverstars do not last a long time, but ive yet to have a burn out with the "newer" version. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 04-18-2008, 08:09 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: SW Michigan Posts: 90 | Siverstar, a little research [QUOTE=rwd_king;166995]uhm... just go to your local parts place like autozone or walmart... i forget the name of them but they are made by silverstar and they are the "new and improved" version, you'll know them when you see the price- as they are NOT cheap. Like i said $70 CDN for 2 headlight bulbs. Silverstars are made by Sylvania. The newest, brightest are the Silverstar Ultras (9006 SU - low beam, 9005 SU high beam). The color of these bulbs is 4100k (bright white). As the above poster suggested, there's probably little need for the Ultra in the high beam positon. Instead, one could use the Silverstar 9005 ST. Color is very close at 4000k. Thus when using brights, color would appear the same in each lamp. Silverstar bulbs are direct replacements for our cars. Did a Google search. Prices vary according to source but is appears a two pack of Ultras can be had for $25 to $30 USD. _Rick | | | 04-19-2008, 07:34 PM | #8 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | I believe 8k HIDs look the best and put out pretty good light. Mine are running 4 years strong. Hurray for my 100th post. | | | 04-19-2008, 08:01 PM | #9 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Also important, whether you go with either halogen or HID, try not to touch the glass part of the bulb with your fingers. It's said that it makes the bulbs more likely to burn out prematurely, though I've never encountered it. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 04-19-2008, 08:09 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: The Netherlands Posts: 188 | Go for BMW H1 units with HID:-). | | | 04-19-2008, 08:09 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | [QUOTE=rikdee;167210] Quote: Originally Posted by rwd_king uhm... just go to your local parts place like autozone or walmart... i forget the name of them but they are made by silverstar and they are the "new and improved" version, you'll know them when you see the price- as they are NOT cheap.
